Admission at the City College of New York
If you are interested in joining the City College of New York as a student, the process is very simple. However, there are several things you must consider before applying, as the CCNY is known to have high standards and there are many applicants for the programs available at the college. The university has a rich tradition, but it is also a modern institution dedicated to research and studying. As a prospective student, you should prove that you are one of the best in the field for which you are applying. The high school grades in the domain you choose to study do count – and quite a lot. Also, you are advised to have as many extra-school activities that relate to the domain as possible, to demonstrate that you are interested in the field and that you know the latest news and discoveries. The grades for individual subjects are not the only aspect that matters when deciding to apply for a good program. The overall academic preparation is very important. You must complete 16 academic units at least. Anything under 16 will not be taken into consideration for a spot at one of the City College of New York undergraduate programs. The ACT or SAT scores are also very important, as well as the overall high school average. If you have a General Equivalency Diploma, you must have obtained a score of 3250 minimum.
A small number of truly exceptional high school students can be admitted at the City College of New York upon the completion of the junior year of high school. For an early admission, you should be at least amongst the top 10 percent in your class. The process is quite easy, once you have proven you academic achievement. You will be asked to come for an interview with a member of the Admissions Committee.
You have to accomplish all these before a deadline. Ideally, you should apply for a program at CCNY in the first few days of the application period. The sooner, the better! There are two periods when you can apply, in the fall – with the deadline on February 1st, and in spring – with the deadline on September 15th.
